Five-star 2027 running back David Gabriel Georges has reportedly made his college decision, but the highly sought-after prospect will wait until July 22 to publicly reveal whether he will join the University of Tennessee or Ohio State University.
According to On3, Gabriel Georges’ uncle, Jean Agenor, confirmed during an interview with recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong> that the family has already reached its decision.
“He’s already made his decision. We had our meeting last week,” Agenor said.
While declining to reveal the choice, Agenor offered insight into what appealed to his nephew about both programs. He noted that Tennessee presents an opportunity for Gabriel Georges to become a transformational player capable of helping elevate the Volunteers to new heights, while Ohio State’s status as a perennial powerhouse means the Buckeyes would continue competing at the highest level regardless of the outcome of his recruitment.
Agenor also emphasized that Tennessee could allow the elite running back to take on a featured role without carrying an overwhelming workload, whereas Ohio State has the depth and recruiting strength to continually replenish its backfield through high school recruiting and the transfer portal.
One of the strongest indicators favoring Tennessee appears to be the relationships the family has developed throughout the recruiting process. Although Agenor acknowledged that Carlos Locklyn has built the closest bond with Gabriel Georges among position coaches, he stressed that the Volunteers’ coaching staff has established the strongest overall relationship with the family.
“Tennessee, it’s different,” Agenor explained. “That’s where we have the best relationships overall. We might have the best position coach relationship with Coach Lock, but overall, when it comes to a staff, the best relationships are with Tennessee.”
Another factor that could influence the final outcome is coaching continuity. Locklyn has built a strong reputation as a recruiter and running backs coach, but his coaching career has included several stops since 2009, with no stay lasting longer than three seasons. That history raises the possibility that he may not remain in Columbus throughout Gabriel Georges’ collegiate career.
Given the family’s thorough approach to the recruiting process and its understanding of the ever-changing coaching landscape, long-term relationships with an entire coaching staff may carry greater weight than ties to a single assistant coach.
Although the official announcement remains weeks away, the latest comments from Gabriel Georges’ camp have fueled speculation that Tennessee may have positioned itself as the frontrunner to land one of the nation’s top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class.
