Princess Cruises Tightens Restricted-Items Rules as Security Concerns Drive New Passenger Warning

Princess Cruises is reminding passengers to carefully review its restricted-items policy ahead of their upcoming voyages, with the cruise line maintaining strict controls on items that could create safety, security, fire, or operational risks onboard. The update comes as cruise operators continue strengthening screening procedures and emphasizing the importance of preventing dangerous or disruptive items from entering ships.

The company’s restrictions cover a wide range of items that passengers may otherwise mistakenly pack in their luggage. Princess Cruises says prohibited items will not be stored onboard, meaning travelers may be required to leave them behind, dispose of them, or make other arrangements before boarding the ship.

A major focus of the policy remains passenger and crew safety. Princess prohibits weapons, ammunition, explosive materials, and other items that could pose a serious security threat. The company also restricts a number of tools and other objects that could potentially be misused or create safety concerns during a voyage.

Princess Cruises is also maintaining restrictions on items that could create fire hazards inside staterooms. Heating devices, clothing irons, certain coffee machines, hot plates, candles, incense, and similar items are among those restricted under the company’s safety rules.

The cruise line’s policy also addresses controlled and prohibited substances, including illegal drugs and medical marijuana. Princess warns that items violating its rules or applicable laws may be removed, and passengers could face further consequences depending on the circumstances.

Technology and recreational equipment are also subject to restrictions. Certain remote-control devices, including drones, as well as hoverboards and similar equipment, are not permitted under the company’s prohibited-items rules. Princess says these restrictions are designed to protect the safety of passengers, crew members, and the vessel itself.

Alcohol and beverages remain another area where passengers must pay close attention. Princess generally does not permit liquor, spirits, or beer to be brought onboard, while limited allowances apply to wine and champagne. Additional restrictions also apply to non-alcoholic beverages and the way they are packaged.

Passengers are being advised to check the latest rules before traveling because luggage may be scanned during the embarkation process. Items that violate the policy can be removed, confiscated, or discarded, while locked luggage may be opened for inspection when security officials need to investigate its contents.

With cruise security remaining a major priority across the industry, Princess Cruises’ latest reminder highlights the importance of checking restricted-item rules before packing. Travelers who fail to review the policy could face delays at embarkation or lose prohibited belongings before their holiday even begins, making a pre-cruise review an important part of preparing for the voyage.
