EX- LIONS QB RETURNS / BACK IN THE NFL — PRACTICE SQUAD
Former Detroit Lions QB is back in the NFL — with an NFC West contender.
Seattle Seahawks announced this week they signed veteran QB Adrian Martinez, who started his career with Lions and has made several stops since then. Martinez provides depth after starter Sam Darnold was sidelined by injury.
Martinez came into NFL as undrafted free agent with Lions in 2023, spending summer with team and turning in strong performances in training camp but missing final roster.
He found his way to UFL, earning MVP honors with Birmingham Stallions and leading team to title, being named MVP of championship game.
“Martinez gives the Seahawks depth behind Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe with Darnold ruled out for Sunday’s game against Arizona due to a quad injury,” team noted. Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Darnold would not go on IR and described him as week to week.
Following success in UFL, Martinez has spent time with Jets and 49ers over past three seasons, appearing in one game with 49ers last season. Martinez’ time with 49ers should help him quickly learn Seattle’s offense given similarities in systems.
Martinez had been out of NFL since being released by 49ers prior to start of season.
