Detroit Lions’ Jack Campbell Hospitalized Over Alarming Neck Injury After Tackle
Detroit Lions All-Pro LB Jack Campbell remains hospitalized overnight with alarming neck injury after tackle vs Vikings.
The star linebacker suffered serious neck injury during first play of 4th quarter vs Minnesota on Sunday Nov 1 at Ford Field — eventual 19-15 win over then-undefeated Vikings (6-0). Injury occurred while tackling Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson — head hit Hockenson’s hip, neck and back seemed to crunch, lay motionless.
Campbell was taken off field on backboard and medical cart, transported by ambulance to local Detroit hospital for evaluation and monitoring. Lions announced: “Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring.” Later update Nov 2: “Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital. Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time.”
Rookie LB Jimmy Rolder was injured on same play — hamstring away from ball, out for season per Freep. Lions also lost Campbell, signed LB K.J. Britt.
Coach Dan Campbell visited Jack in hospital after. Emotional locker room scene unfolded — Campbell removed hat, took knee, prayed for Jack. Jared Goff broke huddle: “I love you boys, stick together. I know that s*** tough with Jack.”
