Ryan Poles Just Put Brad Holmes on Notice With Blockbuster Jeffrey Simmons Trade
If Lions fans wanted an aggressive deadline move, look at Chicago.
Bears GM Ryan Poles just sent two 1sts and a 4th to Tennessee for star DT Jeffrey Simmons. The Bears are going all-in — expensive, huge draft capital, absorbing his contract, but it adds pop to a D-line that needs run defense vs Jahmyr Gibbs.
Lions don’t need DT — Alim McNeill has been incredible (free-agent-level return) and rookie Skyler Gill-Howard superb. But the NFC is wide open, Vikings are 6-0 with barely functional offense, and this is the kind of swing Holmes is being asked to make.
Detroit’s need is CB. They lost Joey Porter Jr. bidding war to Dallas and haven’t been linked to any CB since. Chicago is now their main competition for CB help — names still floating: Sauce Gardner, Alontae Taylor, Charvarius Ward, Kool-Aid McKinstry. Fear is Holmes sees improvement last two games and thinks “he’s good.”
