Lions Rookie Blake Miller Has Looked the Part Through First 5 Starts

The Detroit Lions took a big swing in the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller 17th overall to replace Taylor Decker and allow Penei Sewell to move to left tackle.

Through the first 6 weeks of the season, Miller has played in 5 games with 5 starts, missing only Week 2 against Buffalo with a knee injury. When on the field, he has played 100% of offensive snaps.

The early returns have been encouraging.

According to early PFF grades, Miller earned a 73.2 overall grade through his first three games — ranked 20th among 70 graded tackles — with an 80.6 pass-blocking grade. A first-quarter report noted he had allowed just nine total pressures in his first four starts while being very encouraging in the run game.

The rookie report card from theScore after Week 4 had him at 3 starts, 8 pressures allowed and 3 penalties, noting he was solid before a tough 5-pressure game on Sunday Night Football.

On the stat sheet, he has 5 penalties (4 false starts) and zero sacks allowed in his first two appearances per PFF.

At 6-6, 320 lbs, 22 years old, Miller logged 54 consecutive starts at Clemson, and that iron-man durability is exactly what Detroit needed.

With Sewell grading above 90.0 in two of the last three games after switching to left tackle, Detroit may have found its bookend
