Dan Campbell Shares Injury Update on Lions’ Cornerback Ahead of Vikings Clash

Dan Campbell Delivers Encouraging Injury Update on Lions Cornerback Ahead of Vikings Showdown

The Detroit Lions have received encouraging news about cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. after he suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s 20-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

Head coach Dan Campbell provided an update Monday, suggesting the injury is not serious and that Rakestraw could return to practice later this week.

“He and Ennis, I think those guys will probably sit Wednesday, but the plan is to get them going Thursday, and I think they’ll be fine,” Campbell said, referring to Rakestraw and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Campbell also emphasized that the team would assess both players as the week progresses.

Rakestraw’s Injury Raises Concerns

Rakestraw left Sunday’s game after hurting his ankle while defending a pass in the fourth quarter. His departure raised concerns about Detroit’s secondary, which has been working to improve its consistency this season.

The young cornerback had recorded two solo tackles before leaving the game, playing 21 defensive snaps against Green Bay.

Although he has not been a regular starter, Rakestraw has contributed to Detroit’s defensive rotation and provides another option at cornerback.

Lions Hope to Have Him Ready for Minnesota

The update comes at an important time for Detroit, which is preparing to face the undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Minnesota presents a significant challenge, making the availability of Detroit’s defensive backs particularly important.

Campbell’s initial assessment offers reason for optimism, although Rakestraw’s participation in practice will provide a clearer indication of his readiness.

The Lions will continue monitoring his recovery throughout the week before determining his status for the matchup.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Also Being Monitored

Campbell also addressed St. Brown, who has been dealing with a swollen ankle despite playing through Sunday’s game.

The receiver recorded nine catches for 153 yards against Green Bay, delivering one of his strongest performances of the season.

Like Rakestraw, St. Brown is expected to rest Wednesday, with the Lions hoping both players can return to practice Thursday.

For Detroit, having both players available against Minnesota would provide a welcome boost as the team looks to build on its divisional victory.
