Lions named trade fit for promising starter after Jack Campbell injury ๐Ÿ‘€

Detroit Lions are still focused on non-football-related aspects of scary Jack Campbell injury. However, team does have to prepare for reality Campbell not back anytime soon.

Campbell lay face down and motionless after tackling Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson early fourth quarter of 19-15 win Sunday, placed on backboard, carted off, hospitalized overnight with neck injury. He has since said he has full movement in lower body and continuing progress in upper body. No diagnosis or timetable released.

Lions already signed K.J. Britt and Owen Pappoe, but those look like special teams / depth moves to replace rookie Jimmy Rolder (season-ending hamstring) rather than Campbell replacement. Plan for now is Malcolm Rodriguez to go from reserve to starter next to Derrick Barnes, with Trevor Nowaske, Joe Bachie in mix. Room lacks star power and play-caller.

One name to keep an eye on is Chargers LB Daiyan Henley โ€” named by Heavy / Flipboard as Lions trade fit for โ€˜promisingโ€™ starter after Campbell injury, and listed by SI as top of three LBs Lions could trade for.

Why Henley fits:

Henley was intriguing player coming out of draft in 2023, now entering final year of rookie deal. Rangy athlete, weakside linebacker who could help Lionsโ€™ issues in coverage โ€” Lions have struggled in coverage, Campbell also struggling there this year.

He has 3 career interceptions, flashed pass-rush potential with 5 career sacks. With Chargers now sitting at 0-7, Henley could be expendable as team evaluates whether to extend him. For Detroit, Henley fits ideal mold and would give them another athletic option within linebacking corps.

A to Z Sports also noted: Detroit wound up taking Campbell instead of Henley in 2023 draft โ€” Lions had mocked Henley several times โ€” but Henley has developed into solid off-ball linebacker with athleticism to help in coverage. Detroitโ€™s need for additional weakside LB help existed before Campbell was injured.

Other LB trade fits listed by SI: Dolphins LB Willie Gay (second year Miami, 8.7% missed tackle rate, Lions get up-close look Sunday vs Dolphins 1-6) and Titans LB Cody Barton (80+ tackles each of last four campaigns, one year control beyond this year).

Also in mix per The Athletic Daniel Popper: Dolphins All-Pro Jordyn Brooks โ€” 96 career starts, first-team All-Pro last year, former first-round pick, worn green dot, signed three-year extension in July with โˆผ$13M guaranteed in 2027, Dolphins would take $15.6M dead money in 2027 if traded.

Deadline is Tuesday Nov 10 at 4 PM EST. Lions have been interested in adding CB at deadline, but Campbell injury could force move at LB instead per ESPN Dan Graziano.
