Justin Jefferson Says His Frustration Came From “Wanting To Win”

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson engaged in rare display of frustration late in Sunday’s 19-15 loss to Lions. He also didn’t talk to reporters after game, possibly to avoid saying things that would underscore what he was feeling in moment.

Four days later, Jefferson spoke to media Thursday — No.1 topic was his apparent mood during Minnesota’s first loss of season.

“It was wanting to win,” Jefferson said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN, “and I felt like we had plenty of opportunities to win that game and we only hurt ourselves in multiple ways. It’s just wanting better from the whole entire offense especially. And I feel like the potential and the guys that we have in that room is something very, very special. I feel like we’re wasting that if not going out there executing the plays that we have called and just not living to that standard that we feel like we live up to every single day.”

Jefferson, who always says right things about QBs, said all right things about Kyler Murray, whose performance vs Detroit largely contributed to failure to score more than 15 points. Murray out with hamstring, Wentz to start Monday night. Jefferson noted faith in Murray but also frustration with execution.

One moment that resonates from Sunday’s game wasn’t anything Murray did or failed to do. It came from O’Connell’s decision to punt from Minnesota 33-yard line on fourth and five with 3:01 to play. Given manner Lions were running ball, likelihood of getting another opportunity to score TD was slim.

Every time we lose, there’s always frustration, no matter record — I’m always competitor, always want to win. Never want to lose no matter how game goes for myself.
