Bears Battling Lions To Trade For $21 Million CB With 12 Career INTs

Chicago Bears officially in Super Bowl window. With trade deadline incoming Nov 10, Bears already aggressive — GM Ryan Poles gave up two first-round picks for All-Pro DT Jeffery Simmons, trade already paying off.

With pass rush now upgraded, obvious team must look to upgrade weak secondary. And according to new report, they are indeed looking at cornerback position.

However NFC North rival may just be in bidding war with them.

According to Eagles reporter Thomas R. Peterson on X Nov 5:

“Bears might not be done adding to their defense. They are reportedly in deep competition with Lions to acquire Riq Woolen from the Eagles. #Eagles”

Per Peterson: Bears in deep competition with Detroit Lions to acquire Eagles DB Riq Woolen.

Context:
• Who is Riq Woolen: 6’4″ 210 lbs, Age 26, CB, 5 pro seasons, 64 career games, 53-57 pass breakups and 12 career interceptions (including 6 as rookie 2022). Signed one-year fully guaranteed $12M deal with Philadelphia in March (with $6M signing bonus and four void years), base salary $1.26M — easy Lions fit before deadline. 2026 cap hit $3.408M per Over The Cap.  • Why $21 Million label: Heavy tags as $21M CB because projected 2026 franchise tag for CBs expected in $21-22M range — Woolen is 2027 free agent, high-upside corner whose tag would be $21M.  • Why Bears vs Lions: Both teams poking around on potentially available cornerbacks per ESPN Dan Graziano Nov 4 reporting. Pride of Detroit confirmed: “The Bears made their big move for [Jeffery] Simmons, but they’re still poking around on potentially available cornerbacks, as are the Lions.” Detroit also admitted they were in market for Joey Porter Jr. before Dallas trade. Lions need No.2 CB opposite D.J. Reed while rotating Roger McCreary, Rock Ya-Sin, Khalil Dorsey, Ennis Rakestraw — plus injuries to D.J. Reed (hip), DJ Wonnum (concussion), Branch (concussion).  • Bears secondary struggles: No.1 CB Jaylon Johnson ranked 103rd out of 106 qualifying CBs in PFF coverage grade (32.1), CB2 Malik Muhammad 52.5 (78th), Tyrique Stevenson inconsistent. Team could give up day 3 pick for 2027/2028.
If Bears get outbid by Lions, Ryan Poles must act quick — but for now bidding war is real.
