Concern As Key Pair Of Lions Starters Limited In Practice
Detroit Lions were back on practice field at training facility in Allen Park Wednesday, and there were more than a few notable absences in wake of frightening injury to LB Jack Campbell, along with season-ending injury to Jimmy Rolder.
As Lions indicated in official practice report, key pair of starters were participants but limited.
Per practice report, both WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and DB Brian Branch were limited participants on Wednesday.
Lions reported that both St. Brown and Branch, who were shaken up during Sunday’s victory over divisional rival Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field, practiced but in limited fashion Wednesday. Wednesday was walkthrough not full practice, so designations are estimates from coaching staff based on how player would have participated in traditional practice.
St. Brown limited by rib injury, while Branch dealing with symptoms from concussion.
So far this season, St. Brown has racked up 571 receiving yards on 53 receptions with 5 touchdowns. Meanwhile Branch has 3 solo tackles with interception in two games he’s played since returning to lineup; he began season on PUP list.
Other Wednesday injury report notes per Pride, NBC, Heavy:
• D.J. Reed (hip) OUT of practice Wednesday • DJ Wonnum (concussion) OUT — in concussion protocol, unlikely vs Dolphins • Kerby Joseph (knee) limited participant, 21-day window activated Oct 28, yet to ramp up to 100% • Jacob Saylors (neck) limited • Amen Ogbongbemiga (toe) limited • Jack Campbell obviously absent hospitalized, full movement lower body update Wednesday.
One of injuries suffered Sunday was Branch, who was hurt after lowering head into hit; concussed and departed game.
Following game, head coach Dan Campbell noted how difficult it is to play position in violent game:
“Certainly keep your eyes up. A lot of it, once he’s going, he’s going for his target and then that target drops. And so, that ends up where it goes,” Campbell told reporters. “You can certainly say go lower, but now you have got to be careful. You start going real low, then you start taking out knees and stuff and you don’t want any of that. So, just keep your eyes up, see what you hit, try to drop it just a little bit.
But listen, this is a violent game, man. There’s no way around it. Any way you cut it, it just is, and it’s what we signed up for. And that’s hard, but it is what has been signed up for, anybody that plays this game. Anyway, it’s tough.”
Lions at Dolphins Week 9 Sunday 1 PM ET at Hard Rock Stadium.
