Detroit Lions rookie edge rusher Derrick Moore is already showing the coaching staff his versatility at training camp.
Moore was lined up as a stand-up pass-rushing linebacker, giving him the freedom to roam along the defensive front rather than remaining in a traditional edge alignment.
The most intriguing part was how Moore was used to threaten the interior gaps. Instead of simply attacking from the outside, he was positioned in a way that could create uncertainty for opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks.
That type of alignment could give Detroit another wrinkle in its defensive pressure packages. Moore’s ability to move around the front could allow the Lions to disguise where pressure is coming from and create more one-on-one opportunities.
The Lions selected Moore in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and his physical tools have made him one of the young defenders worth watching throughout training camp.
If Detroit can successfully utilize Moore from multiple positions along the defensive front, it could significantly expand defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s options.
Derrick Moore lining up all over the front could be a problem for opposing offenses. 👀🦁
