đź’Ą Boom:Tennessee Lands Major Recruiting Victory as Kenneth Simon II Flips Commitment from Alabama to Vols

The Tennessee Volunteers have secured one of their biggest recruiting wins of the 2027 cycle after four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II officially flipped his commitment from University of Alabama to the University of Tennessee, delivering a significant boost to head coach Josh Heupel and his staff.

Ranked among the nation’s top linebacker prospects, Simon’s decision represents a major recruiting triumph for Tennessee, which successfully convinced one of the state’s premier talents to remain at home despite months of commitment to Alabama. His pledge further strengthens the Volunteers’ defensive class and reinforces the program’s emphasis on retaining elite in-state recruits.

Simon revealed that the turning point came during a recent visit to Knoxville while accompanying his younger brother to a baseball tournament. Reconnecting with longtime friends and Tennessee commits, including Kesean Bowman, reminded him of the deep personal connections he has with the program and the community where he spent much of his childhood.

Following several days of reflection and discussions with his family, Simon reopened communication with Tennessee’s coaching staff. According to the standout linebacker, conversations with Heupel, linebackers coach William Inge, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and the rest of the staff felt as though no time had passed, reaffirming his belief that Knoxville was the right destination.

Although leaving Alabama was a difficult decision because of the relationships he had built, Simon emphasized that choosing Tennessee was ultimately about finding the best long-term fit for both his football career and his family. With deep family ties to the Volunteers—his father previously played for Tennessee—the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream proved impossible to ignore.

Simon’s commitment is expected to have a ripple effect on Tennessee’s recruiting efforts, as the Volunteers continue to build momentum under Heupel. Landing one of the nation’s top defensive prospects from within the state not only strengthens the roster but also sends a strong message that Tennessee can successfully compete with the SEC’s traditional recruiting powers for elite local talent.

With Simon now firmly committed to the Volunteers, Tennessee has added another cornerstone piece to its future defense and continues to generate positive momentum on the recruiting trail heading toward the next signing period.
