The Michigan Wolverines football program is expected to host several high-profile recruiting visits this week as spring practices begin in Ann Arbor. Among the visitors is a highly rated defensive prospect who was previously committed to another Big Ten program.
The visit signals the start of what could be an active recruiting period for Michigan as coaches look to strengthen relationships with top prospects in the 2027 class.
Four-star safety Gabe Jenkins, a former pledge to Penn State Nittany Lions football, is scheduled to visit Michigan for the first time on Monday. Jenkins reopened his recruitment after the departure of Penn State head coach James Franklin.
The defensive back is now evaluating several programs, including Michigan, Colorado, USC, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Penn State.
Despite reopening his recruitment, Jenkins indicated that Michigan has already made a strong impression on him, particularly through the program’s emphasis on relationships and culture.
He also highlighted his growing connection with Michigan safeties coach Tyler Stockton, describing Stockton as a straightforward and traditional coach whose approach resonates with him.
Jenkins currently has official visits scheduled with Colorado, Virginia Tech, and Penn State, but Michigan could earn a spot on his summer schedule depending on how his first visit unfolds.
The four-star safety said he has long been familiar with Michigan’s football tradition and hopes the trip will further solidify his interest in the program.
The recruit is targeting an early decision timeline and hopes to finalize his college choice by the Independence Day in July. Such a timeline would place added importance on spring and early summer visits as Jenkins narrows his list of potential destinations.
Michigan is also gaining traction with four-star offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau, who recently received another scholarship offer from the Wolverines’ new coaching staff. Rouleau is scheduled to return to Ann Arbor for the program’s spring game on April 18 and plans to take an official visit during the weekend of June 5.
Rouleau’s path to becoming a top prospect has included stops across North America. Originally from Canada, he attended The Pennington School in New Jersey before transferring to The Brook Hill School in Texas ahead of last season. His development has drawn interest from several major programs, including Ohio State, Miami, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, and Florida. Rouleau said he is particularly interested in Michigan as he continues building relationships with the coaching staff.
Several additional recruits are also planning upcoming visits to Michigan. Three-star prospect Gavin Honore is expected to take an unofficial visit from March 17–19. Meanwhile, four-star in-state offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey has scheduled an official visit for the weekend of June 5, while four-star safety Tristan Hughes plans to visit June 12. Four-star defensive lineman Jamar Thompson has also included Michigan among his top four schools, alongside Ohio State, Auburn, and Miami, and is expected to visit Ann Arbor the weekend of June 19.
