Calvin Johnson Reacts to Controversial Officiating in Lions-Packers Game With Perfect Response

The Detroit Lions’ 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday was not without controversy, but one Lions legend is not complaining.

Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson appeared on Up & Adams with Kay Adams on Monday and was asked about the officiating that had FOX analyst Tom Brady frustrated during the broadcast.

The most controversial moment came late in the fourth quarter. With the score tied 17-17, Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks was flagged for roughing the passer after hitting Jared Goff just after he released an 18-yard pass to Sam LaPorta. The penalty added 15 yards and moved Detroit to Green Bay’s 40-yard line, allowing the Lions to drain the clock and set up Jake Bates’ game-winning field goal.

Brady said on air, “That’s definitely not roughing the passer,” but Johnson saw it differently.

“I would have been more pissed off in my day… but some of those calls went our way so, I’m like, ‘Hey, it’s about time,'” Johnson said.

When asked about the roughing call specifically, Megatron joked that Goff was protected like he was wearing a red non-contact jersey.

Johnson admitted his bias was showing, but after years of controversial calls going against Detroit — including his own infamous catch rule in 2010 — Lions fans are enjoying being on the other side.

The Packers were flagged 8 times for 81 yards, including two roughing the passer penalties, while the Lions improved to 4-2 heading into their Week 8 matchup against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.
