Edmonton Elks Shock BC Lions in Front of 40,000 Fans to Reach Grey Cup

The Edmonton Elks have given their supporters a night to remember.

In front of 40,182 fans at Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton defeated the BC Lions 28–16 in the CFL Western Final, securing its place in the 113th Grey Cup.

It was a memorable night for a franchise that hadn’t reached the championship game since 2015.

But getting there wasn’t easy.

Cody Fajardo Leads the Charge

Edmonton quarterback Cody Fajardo delivered an impressive performance when his team needed him most.

He completed 25 of 30 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown, while adding another 84 yards and a rushing touchdown.

His ability to make plays with both his arm and legs created problems for the BC defense.

Austin Mack also played an important role, finishing with six receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Vincent Blanchard contributed five successful field goals, giving Edmonton valuable points throughout the contest.

A Defensive Play That Changed Everything

The game remained competitive for much of the night.

After the teams entered halftime with BC leading 9–6, Edmonton gradually took control in the second half.

Both quarterbacks eventually found the end zone on rushing touchdowns, bringing the score to 16–16 early in the fourth quarter.

Edmonton then took the lead through a Blanchard field goal before Fajardo connected with Mack for a 23-yard touchdown.

The biggest defensive moment came when Joel Dublanko forced a fumble from BC receiver Justin McInnis.

Defensive back JJ Ross recovered the ball and returned it 62 yards, putting Edmonton in excellent field position.

Blanchard added another field goal, extending the lead to 28–16.

The Lions couldn’t find a response, and Edmonton secured the victory.

40,182 Fans Witness an Unforgettable Night

The atmosphere at Commonwealth Stadium was another major part of the story.

More than 40,000 supporters showed up to support the Elks, creating an incredible environment for the Western Final.

The announced attendance of 40,182 was the franchise’s largest home crowd since 2017.

For Edmonton supporters who have experienced difficult seasons, reaching the Grey Cup represents a significant moment for the organization.

One More Game for the Championship

The Elks now have their sights set on the biggest prize in Canadian football.

They will face the Montreal Alouettes in the 113th Grey Cup on November 15 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

Montreal secured its place in the final after defeating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 33–23.

Edmonton has already overcome a major challenge, but one more victory stands between the team and a championship.

After waiting since 2015 for another Grey Cup appearance, the Elks finally have their opportunity.

Can Cody Fajardo lead Edmonton all the way to the Grey Cup championship?
