NFL Trade Deadline Rumors: Lions, Bears Could Compete For Same Players

NFL trade deadline coming soon (next Tuesday Nov 10 4 PM ET), and with tightly contested NFC North, there could be arms race on horizon. Currently Minnesota Vikings lead division at 6-1, but 5-2 Detroit Lions and 6-2 Chicago Bears close behind, both hunting to add talent before Tuesday deadline. In fact, according to ESPN insider Dan Graziano, both Lions and Bears could be hunting for same players.

In one of his latest pieces for ESPN, Graziano said both Lions and Bears have made calls about acquiring a cornerback.

“The Bears made their big move for [Jeffery] Simmons, but they’re still poking around on potentially available cornerbacks, as are the Lions,” Graziano wrote this week. “Detroit might also be in market for help at linebacker, particularly in wake of terrible injury to mainstay Jack Campbell.”

No surprise Lions still searching for cornerback. Team admitted they were in market for Joey Porter Jr. before he was eventually traded to Dallas Cowboys. And Lions CB situation hasn’t really changed since. While D.J. Reed certainly playing better as No.1 cornerback recent weeks, Detroit still seeking No.2 CB while rotating through likes of Roger McCreary, Rock Ya-Sin, Khalil Dorsey, Ennis Rakestraw (now season-ending?).

Bears, who already made big trade deadline move sending two first-round picks and more to Titans for DT Jeffery Simmons (plus 2028 fifth), have also dealt with issues in secondary. No.1 CB Jaylon Johnson currently ranked 103rd out of 106 qualifying CBs in PFF coverage grade (32.1), while CB2 Malik Muhammad not faring much better (52.5, 78th).

It’s not clear which CBs are available. Some commonly thrown around names per Pride of Detroit & ESPN: Eagles CB Riq Woolen (84% Kalshi odds, on one-year $12M deal for 2-5 Eagles team, fits Bears/ Lions/Panthers), Commanders CB Mike Sainristil, Dolphins CB JuJu Brent, Chargers CB Donte Jackson. A month ago Pride compiled list of defensive backs Lions could target. Also linebacker need after Campbell and Jimmy Rolder injuries — Bears also linked to edge rushers Khalil Mack, but evaluators say CB becoming more need.

Bears big move Simmons was third major move by NFC playoff contender this week. Lions coach Dan Campbell said team still assessing options, will look at everything. Deadline is two days before Lions leave for game in Germany vs? Actually vs Washington? Free Press says vs Germany game? But confirmed Nov 10.

Arms race in NFC North.
