Packers- Lions Referee Crew Removed From Primetime After Controversial Calls
The NFL has removed the referee crew that worked the Packers- Lions game from Sunday Night Football.
Referee Alex Moore and his crew are no longer part of Sunday’s primetime matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders following heavily criticized performance during Green Bay’s 20-17 defeat to Detroit on Oct 25 at Ford Field.
The crew will instead officiate the New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins at 4:25pm ET on Nov 1, while Shawn Hochuli’s group takes over Sunday Night Football. The change was first reported by Football Zebras on Thursday, Oct 29.
The move comes after several Packers players blasted Moore’s crew. Green Bay was penalized 8 times for 81 yards vs Detroit’s 5 for 50. Controversial calls included:
• Karl Brooks roughing passer on Jared Goff • Devonte Wyatt unnecessary roughness on Amon-Ra St. Brown • Jordan Love intentional grounding • Brenton Cox Jr. roughing passer
Packers safety Xavier McKinney ripped refs after loss and was fined $25,000 by NFL per Adam Schefter. Head coach Matt LaFleur cut refs slack despite calls.
Per NY Post, citing officiating sources, swap was “more about optics than disciplinary action.” Claim of 4 officials suspended is NOT confirmed — no official NFL announcement of suspensions.
