Lions Announce Major Kerby Joseph Development: Designated to Return from PUP
The Detroit Lions just got their biggest defensive boost of the season.
According to Dan Campbell, Detroit has officially designated All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph to return from the Physically Unable to Perform list, clearing him to resume practicing.
“Everybody loves Kerby, man,” Campbell said. “He’s a good teammate and brings a ton of energy.”
Joseph was back on the practice field Wednesday — his first practice since last season. Under NFL PUP rules, Lions now have 21 days to evaluate him before activating him to 53-man roster. That doesn’t mean he plays Sunday vs Vikings, but he’s progressing.
Joseph hasn’t appeared since Oct 12, 2025, dealing with degenerative knee condition that limited him to 6 games last year (18 tackles, 3 INTs). He earned first-team All-Pro in 2024 with NFL-leading 9 INTs, signed 4-year $86M extension in 2025.
Timing is perfect — Brian Branch just returned vs Packers with 4 tackles and game-changing INT in 4th quarter. Getting Branch + Joseph back together could make Detroit dangerous again.
