Jets May Target Lions OC Drew Petzing as Aaron Glenn Seat Gets Hot
The New York Jets may look back to Detroit for their next head coach. According to SideLion Report, Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing is shining and could be next in line after Aaron Glenn’s rough start in New York.
Glenn fell to 5-19 after a loss to the previously 0-5 Dolphins and is 0-8 in the AFC East, making his firing feel like a lock. The Jets have hired only one offensive coach under Woody Johnson — Adam Gase — but the trend of young offensive hires has left few qualified play-callers.
Petzing, 38, has the Lions offense on fire. Jared Goff has thrown for 200+ yards and a TD in every game this year, and Jahmyr Gibbs leads the league with 9 total TDs and 890 scrimmage yards. Unlike many young OCs like Grant Udinski or Klay Kubiak, Petzing has 3 years calling plays in Arizona plus NFL experience since 2014.
Detroit fans hoping for stability may be disappointed — teams will be calling at season’s end.
