Australia is a beautiful country with lovely weather, relatively good opportunities, friendly people, safe and clean environment, lovely food and wine culture and high standard of education? Yet it has fairly low population compared to the landmass it occupies!
At the same time, Australia is an aging country with welfare system that needs more people working and paying taxes to sustain itself. Australia needs to keep growing at a reasonable rate to keep up with global competition and maintain standard of living of its citizens.
