West Virginia Offensive Lineman Kyle Altuner Enters Transfer Portal

On Friday morning, West Virginia Sports Illustrated reported that offensive lineman Kyle Altuner has officially entered the transfer portal. Altuner, a highly regarded recruit from Good Counsel High School in Olney,

Maryland, was a promising addition to the Mountaineers’ roster but will now seek new opportunities elsewhere.

Altuner was expected to contend for playing time at center during his true freshman season, but a lower-body injury hampered his development and sidelined him for an extended period. Despite the setback, he remains a highly sought-after talent with four years of eligibility remaining.

As a high school recruit, Altuner was widely praised for his technical skills and versatility. He was particularly effective in zone run-blocking schemes and showed advanced ability in climbing to the second level and pulling in gap

schemes—skills that translated well to his projected position at center. Recruiting analysts labeled him as a key prospect for West Virginia’s 2024 class, with minimal concerns about his on-field capabilities.

Altuner chose the Mountaineers over an impressive list of offers from top programs, including Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Florida State, Miami, and Tennessee. His decision to transfer is expected to attract considerable interest from Power 5 schools eager to bolster their offensive lines.

West Virginia’s loss could become a major gain for another program as Altuner’s strong fundamentals, athleticism, and football IQ make him an asset at any level.

His next destination remains uncertain, but his potential ensures he will be one of the most coveted names in the portal.
