Bixby (Okla.) standout Emory Snyder has officially committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers, giving the Big 12 program a highly versatile and talented defensive prospect. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete made his announcement following an extensive recruitment process that saw him field offers from multiple Power Five programs.
Snyder had been evaluating several schools but ultimately found the perfect fit in Morgantown. His strong relationship with the West Virginia coaching staff, particularly with nickels/sams coach Henry Weinreich, played a significant role in his decision. The Mountaineers’ reputation for developing elite defensive talent was another key factor that influenced his commitment.
“West Virginia just felt like home for me,” Snyder said. “From the coaching staff to the fan base and the culture of the program, everything aligned with what I was looking for. I’m excited to be part of something special.”
Throughout his high school career, Snyder has demonstrated impressive versatility on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, he recorded 45 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and six interceptions, showcasing his ability to impact the game at multiple positions. He is expected to play a significant role in West Virginia’s defense, particularly at the nickel position.
Weinreich and the Mountaineers’ staff have long been high on Snyder’s skill set, praising his athleticism, football IQ, and ability to read plays effectively. His commitment strengthens a West Virginia defense that is looking to build a strong foundation for future seasons.
“Emory is a game-changer on defense,” Weinreich said. “His ability to move fluently, cover the field, and make plays in different positions makes him a unique asset for our team. We’re thrilled to have him join our program.”
With his decision now made, Snyder plans to focus on preparing for the transition to college football. He intends to visit Morgantown in the coming months to further acclimate to the program and begin building chemistry with his future teammates.
Faith, academics, and football culture were all crucial elements in Snyder’s college decision. Now, as he looks ahead to his future with the Mountaineers, he remains confident that West Virginia is the right place for him to continue his development and make an impact at the next level.
