Matty Nicholson will depart from Warrington Wolves at the conclusion of the Super League season to join the Canberra Raiders in the NRL.
The 20-year-old will transfer to Canberra on a three-year contract, with Warrington receiving a “significant” transfer fee.
Nicholson, a second-row forward, has made 41 appearances for the Wolves and scored 11 tries since joining from Wigan Warriors in June 2022.
The two-time England international will fill the gap left by former England forward and current Canberra captain Elliott Whitehead, 34, who is set to return to Catalans Dragons for the 2025 season.
“It’s been a lifetime ambition of mine growing up to play in the NRL,” Nicholson told Warrington’s website.
“That’s the pinnacle of the sport, and I’ve always pushed myself to play in that competition one day.”
He will continue to play for the Wolves for the remainder of the season, with the team currently second in the Super League table, just behind Wigan, following Thursday’s victory over Leeds Rhinos.
