Verstappen Reacts to Newey Joining Aston Martin as Red Bull Works to Fix RB20’s Issues

Max Verstappen has responded to the surprising news of Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s legendary chief technical officer, joining Aston Martin in a consulting role. The move has raised eyebrows across the paddock, as Red Bull continues to grapple with ongoing problems in the RB20’s performance this season.

Newey, widely regarded as one of the most innovative designers in Formula 1 history, has been instrumental in Red Bull’s dominance in recent years. His expertise in aerodynamics and car design has played a key role in Verstappen’s success, making his temporary switch to Aston Martin a significant storyline as the season progresses.

Verstappen expressed mixed feelings about Newey’s new involvement with a rival team. “Adrian has been a crucial part of our success at Red Bull,” Verstappen said. “It’s a bit strange to see him work with another team, but I understand it’s a consulting role. We’re focusing on getting the RB20 back to where it needs to be.”

Red Bull has been struggling to find consistency with the RB20, facing challenges related to aerodynamics and tire management that have affected their race pace. Verstappen and his teammate, Sergio Pérez, have both experienced issues with the car’s balance, leading to disappointing finishes in recent races.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner emphasized that Newey’s move is not permanent and that his primary focus remains with Red Bull. “Adrian is still very much part of our team, and we are working closely to address the RB20’s problems. His input, wherever it comes from, is invaluable,” Horner stated.

As Red Bull works to refine the RB20, Verstappen remains optimistic that the team can overcome these hurdles. However, Newey’s involvement with Aston Martin adds an unexpected twist to an already intense season, as rival teams look to close the gap on Red Bull’s past dominance.
