USD COYOTES ANNOUNCE SHOCKING SWITCH TO DIVISION III, DROPPING FOOTBALL PROGRAM TO FOCUS ON ESPORTS

USD COYOTESSTUN FANS WITH BOLD NEW DIRECTION

In a move that has left students, alumni, and fans reeling, the University of South Dakota has announced that its athletic teams, the Coyotes, will be relinquishing their Division I status to join the ranks of Division III.

But that’s not all – in a shocking twist, the university has also revealed that it will be discontinuing its beloved football program, effective immediately.

So, what’s behind this drastic shift? According to USD President, Sheila Gestring, the decision is all about adapting to the changing landscape of collegiate athletics.

“Esports is the future,” Gestring explained during a press conference. “We’re not just talking about competitive gaming – we’re talking about a booming industry that’s creating new opportunities for students and athletes alike.”

As part of this new initiative, the university will be investing heavily in state-of-the-art esports facilities and recruiting top gaming talent from around the country.

While the news has been met with widespread shock and disappointment, particularly among football fans, Gestring remains confident that this bold new direction will ultimately benefit the university and its students.

“This is about positioning ourselves for success in the 21st century,” she said. “We’re excited to see where this new chapter takes us.”
