Texas A&M shuts down Kentucky, pushing it to the verge of elimination

For the first time this season, Kentucky has been pushed to the brink of elimination. On Monday, the Wildcats suffered a 5-1 loss to Texas A&M in the Bracket 2 winner’s bracket game of the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. This defeat marks Kentucky’s first loss of the NCAA Tournament thus far.

“We had some opportunities and did not cash in,” UK head coach Nick Mingione said postgame. “As you know, in a game like this, all those opportunities matter. The big inning is just about — maybe the biggest factor in whether you win or lose a game in college baseball. They were able to get one and we weren’t. That was the difference in the game.”

Early on Monday, runs were few because Ryan Prager of Texas A&M and Mason Moore of Kentucky both managed to keep the opposition off balance.

In the bottom of the second, Kentucky had a chance to get to Prager but was unable to capitalize.
