Tyler Johnson, who won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021, is still one of the top free agents available.
In the past three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Johnson’s profile dipped slightly as he played for the rebuilding team. Despite this, he still contributed significantly when healthy, tallying 32 goals and 38 assists for a total of 70 points in 149 games.
At 33 and coming off a seven-year, $35 million contract, Johnson isn’t expected to demand a substantial payday, according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. However, his recent performance and extensive playoff experience make him an appealing choice for playoff contenders.
The Colorado Avalanche are reportedly a potential destination for Johnson. The Avalanche could benefit from his veteran presence and clutch playoff abilities. Joining Colorado would give Johnson another chance to compete for a championship while providing the team with valuable depth and experience at center. Over his 12-year career, Johnson has accumulated 193 goals and 238 assists for a total of 431 points in 738 games.
This move could be advantageous for both parties, aligning with Johnson’s desire to join a playoff contender and bolstering Colorado’s roster for another deep playoff run.
