In a remarkable display of defensive prowess, the Toronto Blue Jays have secured the American League Team Gold Glove Award for the second straight year. This accolade, introduced in 2020 by Rawlings, recognizes the top defensive team in both the American and National Leagues.
The Blue Jays distinguished themselves in 2024, leading all of Major League Baseball with an impressive 102 defensive runs saved (DRS). Additionally, the team showcased their defensive skills by finishing fourth in outs above average (OAA) with 26 and maintaining a stellar .984 fielding percentage throughout the season.
A key contributor to Toronto’s defensive success was Daulton Varsho, who was awarded the Gold Glove for his exceptional performance in center field. Varsho led the American League with 16 DRS at his position and also made significant contributions in left field, recording 12 DRS.
Other notable defensive players included Alejandro Kirk, who posted 13 DRS, and Kevin Kiermaier, who achieved nine DRS in just half a season. Ernie Clement was also recognized as a finalist for the Gold Glove at third base, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa showcased versatility across multiple positions before being traded.
In a parallel achievement, the Milwaukee Brewers captured the National League Team Gold Glove Award for the second consecutive year, highlighting a growing emphasis on defensive excellence across Major League Baseball.
