Thunder Adjust Roster Following Commanding Victory Over Rockets

The Oklahoma City Thunder secured an impressive 137-128 victory over the Houston Rockets on Monday night, marking their 50th win of the 2024-25 NBA season. Leading the charge was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who delivered a dominant 51-point performance, overwhelming Houston’s defense throughout the night.

Following the game, the Thunder front office made an official roster move, announcing a key adjustment to their squad. In a statement released by the team’s PR department, Oklahoma City confirmed:

“The Oklahoma City Thunder has assigned forward Dillon Jones to the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA G League.”

Jones, a rookie wing, has faced challenges in securing a consistent role within the Thunder’s deep rotation. Over 37 appearances this season, he has averaged 2.1 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in 8.8 minutes per game. Despite flashes of potential, including a 12-point performance against the Dallas Mavericks on November 17, opportunities at the NBA level have remained limited.

A first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2024 NBA Draft, Jones arrived in Oklahoma City following an impressive collegiate career at Weber State, where he averaged 20.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists with 49-32-86 shooting splits. While the Thunder initially hoped he could carve out a role in the rotation, the team’s depth and success this season have made consistent playing time difficult to secure.

With this assignment to the G League, Jones will have the opportunity to further develop his game with the Oklahoma City Blue, gaining valuable minutes and refining his skill set. The move signals the Thunder’s commitment to his growth while maintaining their highly competitive roster as they push toward the postseason.

As Oklahoma City continues its impressive campaign, the organization remains focused on both immediate success and long-term player development. Jones’ stint in the G League provides him a chance to evolve, with hopes of eventually earning a more significant role in the NBA.
