The Phoenix Suns adds another young talent

After five seasons in which few rookies were drafted or saw action, this summer has been a welcome change of pace for the organization. At last, the Phoenix Suns are making a future-focused investment.

It concerns damn time.

The Suns have a wealth of inexpensive future role players on the back end of their roster. Cheap rotation players are essential for championship-caliber teams, particularly for Phoenix, which is contending for the second seed. With that depth in place, their 10-man rotation is essentially established, allowing you to get a bit more inventive with the edges.

Three players have inked two-way contracts with the Suns. Villanova’s second-year point guard Collin Gillespie and Baylor’s undrafted rookie Jalen Bridges. Not to mention, TyTyWashington, Jr., a native of Phoenix, has taken the last two-way seat.

It’s encouraging to see them use those three roster spaces in addition to adding two rookies who are dedicated to learning.

They only had the 22nd selection going into the draft, thus they did a good job of filling these places through scouting and resource use. Though their numbers won’t be announced right away, the two newcomers will probably start on the third string and not instantly disrupt the rotation. Since Jalen Bridges’ skill set is ideal for their great players, he might potentially be a darkhorse influential rookie.
