The Los Angeles Dodgers, who lead the league in payroll with almost $39 million in salary, lost both Mookie Betts and Yoshinobu Yamamoto to serious injuries in the course of 14 innings. With only six weeks before the trade deadline, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and the front office are under even more pressure to strengthen their squad.
This past weekend, Yamamoto pitched two innings against the Kansas City Royals and departed the game complaining of soreness in his triceps along with a marked decrease in his velocity. With a ruptured rotator injury, he was later placed on the 15-day disabled list and may miss months of time.
Manager Dave Roberts told reporters, “It’s not going to be a season-ending situation. It will take some time.” He won’t be throwing for a few weeks because of that, and after that, we’ll just kind of see where things go.
