The Chiefs have been hit hard by injuries during training camp this week, and offensive lineman Wanya Morris left Friday’s practice with an apparent injury. Morris, who was working as a left guard after losing his starting left tackle spot, remains an important part of Kansas City’s offensive line due to his versatility and experience. He left the field on the front of a cart, which is a more favorable sign than if he were on the back, though the severity of his injury is still unknown.
With the Chiefs already dealing with several injuries, Morris’ situation could become one of the more significant issues. Mike Caliendo replaced Morris after the injury. Given the frequent injuries in the position, having strong depth is crucial.
Morris’ role is vital as the team aims to prevent issues similar to those that contributed to their Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay. While Kingsley Suamataia is expected to start at left tackle, Morris is being prepared for a versatile role similar to Nick Allegretti’s in past seasons. Allegretti stepped in for Joe Thuney during the Super Bowl, and Morris might find himself in a similar situation.
Morris needs practice reps to gain experience at guard, as he is more familiar with tackle positions. Any extended absence could hinder his development and impact the Chiefs’ plans. Hopefully, Morris’ injury will not be severe, and he will return to the field soon.
