Texas Rangers right-hander, Jon Gray going on injury

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray exited Sunday’s game against Toronto without making a pitch after appearing to injure himself during warm-ups for the bottom of the first inning.

With Gray out, the Rangers replaced him with right-hander Jonathan Hernández. Hernández struggled, giving up three runs in the first inning, including a home run by Daulton Varsho.

Gray had a 5-4 record with a 3.73 ERA over 20 games this season. He had been performing well in July, going 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA in four appearances, three of which were starts. Gray, a 10-year veteran, is in his third season with the Rangers after leaving Colorado to sign a four-year deal with Texas following the 2021 season.

On Saturday, the Rangers used 4 1/3 innings from right-hander José Ureña and three innings from right-hander Dane Dunning, leaving them unlikely to be available in relief on Sunday. The remaining bullpen consists of five relievers: right-handers José Leclerc, David Robertson, Josh Sborz, and Kirby Yates, along with left-hander Jacob Latz.
