Texas Football Secures Commitment from Four-Star Tight End

On July 15, 2024 — Texas football has secured a major commitment in its 2025 recruiting class with the addition of highly coveted tight end Nick

Townsend from Spring (TX) Dekaney. The four-star prospect, ranked among the top tight ends in the nation, announced his commitment to the

Longhorns on Monday afternoon, selecting Texas over offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, and USC. The decision comes as a significant victory for

head coach Steve Sarkisian and special teams/tight ends coach Jeff Banks, who had prioritized Townsend as one of their top targets

in this recruiting cycle. Townsend, known for his athleticism and pass-catching ability, represents a perfect fit for the Longhorns’

evolving offense. At 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, Townsend is a versatile threat who excels in the receiving game, drawing comparisons to former

Texas tight end JT Sanders. His commitment bolsters the Longhorns’ depth at the position, joining Calhoun (GA) four-star Emaree Winston

as the second tight end in the 2025 class. “We’re thrilled to add a player of Nick’s caliber to our program,” said Sarkisian. “He brings tremendous

talent as a receiving tight end, and we’re excited to see him continue to grow in our system.” While Townsend is primarily being recruited as a

tight end, his athleticism also opens the door for the possibility of him playing linebacker in the future. Townsend plays both positions for

Dekaney High School, and Texas coaches, including co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen, have

emphasized his two-way potential. Townsend’s commitment is a key part of Texas’ momentum in the 2025 recruiting class, which has seen a

surge of recent commitments following a brief stretch of setbacks earlier in the summer. With this latest addition, the Longhorns now have 15

commitments for the class, positioning them for a fifth-straight top-10 national recruiting finish under Sarkisian.

“We’re building something special here, and Nick is a big part of that,” added Banks. “We’ve had success at the tight end position recently, and

Nick has the chance to continue that tradition.” As the Longhorns continue to build their roster for the future, Townsend’s commitment serves

as a major milestone in their efforts to land elite talent in key positions.
