Due to his outstanding performances in the Championship the previous season, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Sunderland winger Jack Clarke, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
Following Michael Olise’s decision to join Bayern Munich, a number of clubs, notably Wolves and Crystal Palace, are reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old to play in the Premier League this summer.
But according to GMS sources, Sunderland is eager to keep their superstar this summer and has set an asking price of £25–30 million.
Following a stellar season at the Stadium of Light, Clarke is demonstrating his desire to join the Premier League; nevertheless, Sunderland’s demands may prove to be too much for the left-winger to handle this summer.
Clarke was selected as the team’s Player of the Season in April after making 40 league appearances for Sunderland, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists.
Sunderland’s Championship campaign proved to be challenging despite his best efforts; the team finished 16th overall and fired managers Tony Mowbray and Michael Beale prior to appointing Mike Dodds as temporary manager in February.
Eye of the Wolves on Jack C. Clarke
According to GMS sources, Sunderland is requesting between £25 and £30 million for Clarke, which is somewhat more than what Wolves is willing to pay for the gifted winger.
Described as “unplayable” by former Arsenal player Adrian Clarke, Wolves are apparently unwilling to spend more than £20 million on the 23-year-old this summer since they are operating on a tight budget this transfer window.
Although Wolves has not broken any Premier League financial rules this year, the club has lost £67.2 million for the 2022–2023 fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Sunderland is eager to make a significant profit on Clarke this summer because, according to GMS sources, his current contract has a sell-on clause that is estimated to be worth 25%. Clarke was previously signed by Tottenham.
Ian Harte, Clarke’s agent, stated in a media statement earlier this year that “we’ll probably see Jack moving.”
As per his agency, Sunderland rejected ‘a couple of bids’ from Lazio earlier this year, so Clarke had the opportunity to leave the team during the January transfer window.
