In a terrifying and chaotic incident, the luxury cruise liner MSC Fantasia lost all power and propulsion while passing through the notoriously dangerous Gulf of Aden, an area known for pirate activity. Over 4,000 passengers and crew were left stranded at sea for nearly 11 hours — in total darkness and gripped by fear.
The sudden blackout occurred at approximately 2:13 a.m. local time. All lights, communications, air conditioning, and engine power were lost — leaving the massive vessel dead in the water.
Passengers report panic spreading quickly as emergency announcements failed to broadcast and elevators stopped mid-motion. With no immediate explanation, many feared a terror or cyberattack. Some began barricading cabin doors, while others crowded the lifeboat stations in sheer confusion.
