Oasis to Cancel Thousands of Tickets Sold on Resale Websites Ahead of Reunion Tour
As excitement builds for Oasis’s highly anticipated reunion tour, the band’s promoters, Live Nation and SJM, have announced plans to cancel over 50,000 tickets that have appeared on resale websites. This move is aimed at combatting ticket touting and inflated prices, ensuring that fans can access tickets at face value.
In August, when the tour was announced, 1.4 million tickets were made available. However, the overwhelming demand saw more than 10 million fans from 158 countries vying for a spot in the queue. Within hours of the sale, many tickets found their way onto secondary platforms at significantly marked-up prices.
Promoters emphasized that tickets were meant to be sold only through authorized channels—Ticketmaster and its resale partner, Twickets—at face value. This strategy is intended to protect fans from the inflated prices often seen on unauthorized resale sites.
Live Nation and SJM revealed that approximately four percent of the tickets ended up on resale platforms, which equates to nearly 50,000 tickets. The cancellation process for these tickets, believed to have violated the sale terms, will commence shortly. Fans whose tickets are cancelled in error will have the opportunity to appeal to the relevant ticket agent for resolution.
A spokesperson for the promoters reiterated the importance of adhering to the terms and conditions set forth to mitigate unauthorized reselling. “Only four percent of tickets have ended up on resale sites,” they noted, contrasting it with some major tours where up to 20 percent of tickets can be found on these platforms.
The promoters continue to urge fans to refrain from purchasing tickets from unauthorized websites, warning that these may be fraudulent or subject to cancellation. As the tour approaches, the commitment to fair ticket sales remains a top priority for Oasis and its team, ensuring that true fans can enjoy the reunion experience at legitimate prices.
