The Boston Bruins have struggled in the first 10 games of the 2024-25 season, with a record of 4-5-1. Despite appearing to hit rock bottom multiple times, they continue to face setbacks, including an overtime loss to Utah and a 4-0 defeat against the previously winless Nashville Predators.
After returning home, they suffered a disappointing 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars, followed by a narrow overtime victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where they allowed a tying goal late in regulation. They then lost to the struggling Philadelphia Flyers, raising concerns about potentially joining them in the Draft Lottery.
Several players have underperformed, contributing to the poor start.
Charlie Coyle: After a strong previous season, Coyle has struggled this year, recording only one goal and a minus-8 rating while averaging 17:15 ice time. His face-off percentage of 40.6% is also concerning.
Pavel Zacha: Zacha, who had a good 2023-24 season, hasn’t performed well this year, tallying only one goal and three points in 10 games. His move to the first line hasn’t resulted in increased offensive output.
Trent Frederic: A key player in recent seasons, Frederic has only managed one goal and three points this year. Despite being shifted around the lineup, he has yet to find success.
Morgan Geekie: In a contract year, Geekie has disappointed after a career-best season, contributing just one assist and averaging 12:40 ice time while struggling to find a consistent role.
Nikita Zadorov: As a significant offseason signing, Zadorov brings toughness but has been prone to penalties, costing the team in critical moments. He has three assists while averaging 18:52 ice time, but his penalties put extra pressure on the Bruins’ penalty kill.
