Chilean authorities announced on Monday that they are investigating an alleged sexual assault involving players from the Colo Colo soccer club, including former international Arturo Vidal.
The Santiago prosecutor’s office confirmed the incident occurred at a bar in the upscale Vitacura area of the capital. The alleged victim’s sister claimed that she was drugged and sexually assaulted by Colo Colo players.
A local police officer stated that Vidal, 37, was brought to a Vitacura police station for an “investigative identity check,” a standard procedure for suspects. After the check, Vidal was released and did not make any statements about the matter.
Other players involved in the incident also underwent similar procedures and have provided testimony.
Additionally, a Santiago court released another former Chile international, Jorge Valdivia, on Monday. Valdivia, 41, had been arrested on October 22 as part of a rape investigation. He is accused of raping a woman two days prior, though he has denied the allegations.
