Shed Seven have scored their second UK number one album of the year with Liquid Gold, following their January chart-topping success with A Matter of Time. The alternative rock band, who first emerged in the early ’90s during the Britpop era, have now reached this milestone nearly 30 years after the release of their debut album, Change Giver.
Guitarist Paul Banks expressed his disbelief and gratitude, saying, “We can’t quite believe it, but this is our second number one of 2024, which is absolutely mind-blowing.” He continued, “As a self-managed band, we do all this ourselves, but we’d like to thank our amazing label, Cooking Vinyl, our incredible crew, and most of all, our loyal fans who have supported us throughout this week. We’re so proud of this achievement, and we can’t wait to get out on tour to celebrate.”
Shed Seven’s new album, Liquid Gold, revisits iconic tracks from their past, marking a reflection on their 30-year journey in the music industry.
Tom Newman, Product and Marketing Manager at Cooking Vinyl, commented, “This achievement is truly surreal. To follow up their first-ever number one with another just ten months later is a testament to the band’s hard work and dedication. We couldn’t be prouder of them, and they’ve raised the bar for independent artists everywhere.”
In the wider UK album chart, Post Human: Next Gen by Bring Me The Horizon enters at number two, while Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet moves from second to third. British rapper Nines debuts at number four with Quit While You’re Ahead, and Ed Sheeran’s Tour Collection lands at number five.
Meanwhile, in the UK singles chart, Sabrina Carpenter’s Taste continues its dominance at number one for a sixth consecutive week. Carpenter also holds the third and fifth spots with Espresso—which won Best Song at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards—and Please Please Please. Chappell Roan’s Good Luck Babe occupies second, while Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ Die With A Smile rounds out the top five at number four.
