Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, the Norwegian alpine skier, is facing ongoing health challenges following an injury he sustained in January. After a crash during a World Cup downhill race in Switzerland, Kilde has been struggling with complications in his recovery. His girlfriend, Mikaela Shiffrin, who also had a tough period during this time, has been by his side.
Recently, Kilde updated his fans on Instagram, revealing that his condition has worsened over the past few days. He has been experiencing increased pain in his repaired shoulder due to intensified training. Compounding his issues, he has now contracted an infection and will require daily IV antibiotics for the next six weeks through a PICC line. Despite these setbacks, Kilde remains optimistic, expressing gratitude for the support he’s received from Shiffrin and others, and remains determined to continue his fight.
Shiffrin had previously shared in March that Kilde’s shoulder injury was severe, describing it as “literally blown apart.” She traveled to Switzerland to be with him in the hospital and noted his progress, although she acknowledged the lengthy recovery ahead. Kilde also suffered a calf laceration that needed urgent surgery, which Shiffrin described as a critical situation.
Both athletes had been making progress in their rehabilitation and were optimistic about returning for the 2024–25 season. Their recovery seemed promising after a May vacation in Mexico, where they shared their improving health on social media and attended the Monaco Grand Prix.
