Reason why Nashville SC sacked manager despite 2-0 MLS victory over Toronto FC

But the announcement comes only hours after Shaquell Moore and Teal Bunbury’s late goals helped Nashville defeat Toronto FC 2-0, a significant triumph. It was only the Tennessee team’s third victory in 12 games this season, and as a result, they are currently 14 points behind Inter Miami, the league leaders, in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

As part of the management turnover, Smith has left Nashville, and Steve Guppy, the assistant coach, has also left. In the interim while the hunt for a new permanent manager is ongoing, Rumba Munthali will lead the team. Nashville is hoping that their first coaching change of the MLS season would help the team secure a fifth-consecutive postseason berth.

After leading Nashville for two seasons in the USL Championship, Smith had been the team’s sole manager since they began playing in the Major League Soccer in 2020. The Englishman led the squad to the Leagues Cup final in 2023, but Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, upset them.

FUTURE PLANS FOR NASHVILLE?

The first game Munthali will oversee as Nashville’s acting manager is this Saturday’s home game versus Atlanta United. The interim manager will travel to Montreal the next weekend, and if he can get six of the six points that are available, the hierarchy might take him under consideration for the position on a permanent basis.
