Rangers are close to finalizing the signing of Hamza Igamane, with the striker on his way to becoming a key player for manager Philippe Clement, according to the Daily Record.
The Daily Record reported on July 3 that the 21-year-old Moroccan forward is set to arrive in Glasgow to complete his £1.7 million transfer from AS FAR Rabat. Unless any last-minute issues arise, Igamane is expected to be the first of several permanent attacking additions for the Gers this summer, as Clement leads a significant overhaul of the squad at Ibrox .
In a statement, Igamane expressed gratitude towards the hierarchy, staff, fans, and his teammates at AS FAR, noting his “incredible journey” but acknowledging that it was time to “bid farewell and embark on a new challenge.”
Rangers are continuing their summer transfer business with the acquisition of Igamane. Clement’s rapid approach to reshaping the squad indicates he is thorough in his efforts to build a new-look side for next season.
Igamane, whose £1.7 million fee is the highest Rangers have paid this summer, will be Clement’s fifth permanent signing since the transfer window opened, and sixth overall .
Meanwhile, Rangers have also been busy with outgoings, releasing five senior players aged 30 and above at the end of their contracts. Igamane will be the fifth of six new arrivals aged 21 or younger.
In the attacking department, Igamane might be thrust into first-team action sooner than expected, with loanees Fabio Silva and Abdallah Sima returning to their parent clubs and Yusuf Kabadayi yet to sign. Regardless of when Igamane, who may soon become an Olympian, gets his chance, he will be eager to prove to Clement that he was worth the investment .
In other Rangers news, Ben Davies’ departure from the club could be delayed due to takeover developments at Sheffield United .
