West Virginia’s receiving corps just got a boost as Preston Fox has rejoined the team after previously announcing his retirement.
The Morgantown native, who initially walked on to the Mountaineers’ roster before earning a scholarship in 2022, had stepped away from football in January, citing personal reasons. However, he is now back and listed on the team’s official website, adding much-needed depth to the receiver room.
Fox, known for his reliability as both a pass-catcher and return specialist, played 40 games for WVU, recording 43 receptions for 548 yards and three touchdowns. He also made an impact on special teams, averaging 25.1 yards per kick return and 8.1 yards per punt return over the past two seasons.
In his retirement post earlier this year, Fox expressed gratitude for his time at West Virginia, stating, “Everything comes to an end at some point, but life is just starting. Thank you, West Virginia! Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer!”
Now, with his return, he has an opportunity to contribute once again as WVU prepares for the upcoming season under head coach Rich Rodriguez. His experience and versatility will be valuable assets as the Mountaineers look to strengthen their offense.
