In the Pirates’ 5-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night, designated hitter Andrew McCutchen and shortstop Oneil Cruz both suffered injuries while running the bases and had to leave the game in the seventh inning.
McCutchen, who had just singled to left field, began to limp as he reached first base and was replaced by Ji Hwan Bae. McCutchen had extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games.
Later, Cruz hit a two-run double to right field but stumbled while rounding second base, leading to Jared Triolo taking over as a pinch runner.
McCutchen was diagnosed with left knee discomfort and Cruz with left ankle discomfort.
The win ended the Pirates’ 10-game losing streak.
