**Suns Retain Bol Bol:** The Phoenix Suns are bringing back Bol Bol on a one-year deal, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Bol showed flashes of his potential during various regular season moments last season, and now he will have the opportunity to further develop under Mike Budenholzer’s guidance.
The Suns are actively making moves ahead of the legal tampering period of free agency, which begins tomorrow. They are set to re-sign fan favorite Bol Bol, 24, who was a former five-star recruit before injury concerns led to his fall to the second round in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Bol struggled to find his footing in his first four NBA seasons before signing with Phoenix on a veteran’s minimum contract last July. He aimed to develop in a strong culture surrounded by superstar talent. Bol quickly won over the fanbase and became a valuable spark plug, although his role under former coach Frank Vogel remained limited.
The young center showcased his potential as a three-point shooter, quality decision maker, and rim protector, which could fit well in Budenholzer’s system. The Suns have long been interested in retaining Bol, but there were doubts due to the team’s ability to only offer a minimum contract, as they do not hold his bird rights.
Bol’s love for the city, the fans, and his role as a mentee under Kevin Durant were factors that suggested he would return to the Valley, which will be officially confirmed tomorrow afternoon.
The Suns have also been involved in multiple other moves today, which can be read about here and here.
