The Philadelphia Phillies and left-hander Cristopher Sánchez reached a $22.5 million, four-year agreement on Saturday that will span 2025–2028.
In addition to salary of $1.5 million in 2025, $3 million in 2026, $6 million in 2027, and $9 million in 2028, Sánchez receives a $2 million signing bonus. Philadelphia possesses two options: a $14 million option with a $1 million buyout for 2029 and a $15 million option with a $1 million buyout for 2030.
If the candidates place in the top 10 for the Cy Young Award, the options might increase to $16 million for 2029 and $19 million for 2030.
Sánchez, 27, inked a one-year deal for 2024 that will pay him $280,432 in the lower levels and $753,500 in the majors.
Via a translator, Sanchez exclaimed, “I’m so happy to be here.” “I’m really excited about this contract and what the future holds.”
Arbitration would have been available to him following the 2025 season. The options might extend to his first two seasons following his eligibility as a free agent.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski stated, “We are always open to good players in your organization and keeping them, but philosophically we’re not normally into negotiating during the season because it could be a distraction to the player.”
