Tragically, hours before their sister’s wedding, NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew perished in an accident.
This week, Johnny and Matthew celebrated their sister Katie’s wedding in their hometown of New Jersey. They made the decision to go for a bike ride on Thursday, August 29, and at 8:19 p.m., they were struck fatally by a suspected drunk driver.
According to Page Six, the driver tried to pass two slowly moving cars, but instead struck the brothers as they were riding their bikes from behind. Charged with two counts of vehicular murder, the driver acknowledged consuming five or six beers prior to the collision.
Since the accident, more terrible information have come to light.
Johnny is survived by his wife Meredith and their kids Noa and Johnny.
People has revealed that Matthew was expecting his first child with his wife Madeline. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support her and the baby, who will be named Tripp.
Page Six has also reported that Katie has canceled the wedding, which was set to take place on Friday (August 30). The ceremony was scheduled to take place at 1:45pm with both Johnny and Matthew as groomsmen.
Johnny played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the team spoke out in a statement on Friday.
