Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis will return to the bench for Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. St. Louis has been away from the team since March 16 to be with his family after his 16-year-old son, Mason, was hospitalized due to complications from an injury sustained in a youth hockey game.
According to the Canadiens, Mason St. Louis is now in stable condition and recovering at home with his family in Connecticut.
“We are grateful for the understanding and support from the Canadiens organization, our fans, and the hockey community during this challenging time,” said Martin St. Louis. “A special thank you to the doctors and nurses who cared for Mason. I also appreciate everyone respecting our privacy and ask that the focus remains on the team and the rest of the 2023-24 season.”
During St. Louis’ absence, assistant coach Trevor Letowski stepped in, with the team going 1-2-1 under his leadership.
St. Louis expressed his gratitude toward the Canadiens organization: “I appreciate the support shown by everyone within the organization, allowing me to be with my family. My wife Heather and I have been fully focused on Mason’s recovery.”
Heading into Tuesday’s matchup, Montreal holds a 26-32-12 record (64 points) for the season.
